Ventilation and Natural Ventilation
Effective ventilation relies on fresh air being drawn into the house and stale air being expelled. Natural ventilation is the oldest type of ventilation and was used until the 1970s.
Natural Ventilation - How it Works
Effective ventilation relies on fresh air being drawn into the house and stale air being expelled. Natural ventilation relies on warm air rising. In older houses, air enters through windows and walls that are not airtight. The used air then exited through ventilation ducts in the chimney. Thanks to the chimney and its heat, natural ventilation worked. When we stopped burning fires in the chimney and simultaneously sealed our houses, natural ventilation ceased to function.
Improve Natural Ventilation
To solve the problems many houses with natural ventilation have, there's a simple solution. Install fresh air vents in all rooms except the kitchen and bathroom. In the kitchen and bathroom, the stale air should be expelled.
