Airmove for healthy homes and healthy people

Airmove knows that healthy homes lead to healthy people. When the house is well, those who live in it are also well.

A constant question led to innovation

Lars Östlin founded Airmove. At the time, he was working with wood-burning stoves, among other things, and explains what triggered Airmove's innovative journey:

- We got tired of always being asked if the heat could be distributed to other rooms. Wood-burning stoves produce excellent heat, but only in a specific room, and we couldn't get the heat circulated throughout the house the way we wanted. This has always been a problem, and no one had done anything about it.

When you light a fire in your fireplace, the room where the stove is located gets warm. Often, it even gets too warm, while other rooms in the house don't get enough heat. What Lars wanted to solve was the problem of distributing the heat to other rooms.

Our own test center in a disused ICA store

This was a dilemma without a solution, so Lars and his colleagues started experimenting. They bought a closed-down ICA store and built a test house inside the store. In the test house, smoke machines can be run, and there are temperature sensors in the walls, floors, and ceiling. The house allows for experimentation and the development of new products.

- This house is the core of what we do. It's the part that really allows us to develop the products we want within Airmove, Lars emphasizes.

With the test house in place, the Airmove team began testing. They tested all existing solutions and tried their own new ones. What they realized was that everyone was trying to move heat from the warm room, but all tests of this technique yielded the same poor results. Certainly, heat spread from the room with the fireplace, but far from as well as desired.

- Then the idea came to try and reverse the construction - that where you want the heat to enter, you suck out the cold, Lars explains.

It was a simple yet ingenious solution. They turned the tables and sent cold air down from the upstairs, and then the warm air was pushed up through the stairs. It was then and there that Airmove and the first product Airmove 2.0 were born.

A successful first installation

And already at the first proper installation in a typical Swedish house, all tests proved to be correct:

- The first live house we ran was a house in Fagersta, which had very big problems. They had a great wood-burning stove in their living room, but only the living room got warm. The kitchen, hallway, and upstairs were very cold. Upstairs, there was even ice on the balcony door and ice on the window in the room where we installed the Airmove. 30 minutes after installation, we took a new measurement, and we had exactly the same temperature throughout the house. The ice on the balcony door and in the room where we installed the Airmove was completely gone; the windows were completely dry. So right then and there, we began to understand that this could be a really fun thing to work with, Lars explains.

Solutions to new problems

The problem of circulating air in the house was now solved, but Lars and the Airmove team soon discovered that there were more problems in Swedish houses. In order to have energy-efficient houses, we have added insulation and replaced windows, and while we do get energy-efficient houses, they are far too airtight, with a risk of mold and poor air quality. To solve that problem, there is the fully automatic product Airmove 3.0, so you can now both ventilate the house and circulate the air in it. Over time, Airmove 3.0 has been joined by the basement vent Airmove 3.5.

Over time, the Airmove Flow bathroom fan has also been developed, as another building block in achieving good air quality in the house. Airmove Flow helps to ventilate air out through the house's wet rooms, creating a good airflow through the house. When air is ventilated out, fresh air enters through the house's fresh air vents. Airmove Flow is available in two versions with different dimensions: Airmove Flow 100 and Airmove Flow 250.

Even though Airmove 2.0 can equalize the temperature between different floors, there can still be problems with temperature differences between different rooms. This problem has led to the innovation Airmove 1.1, which improves circulation between rooms in the dwelling and thus equalizes temperature differences between different rooms.

Central to Airmove is also a constant focus on energy efficiency. When additional insulation and new windows have been installed, the intention is often to save energy. At the same time, the house needs good ventilation to be healthy. Airmove works so that you don't have to choose between an energy-efficient and a healthy house. With smart innovations, you can have both.

Incredibly positive response

Lars appreciates all the positive feedback on Airmove's products over the years:

- The response when we present our Airmove products has also been overwhelming. We try to find a way to make people in the house feel good. Healthy houses, healthy people. And we work very hard to solve all those problems with circulation and ventilation, and also with humane prices. It shouldn't cost a couple of hundred thousand to remodel to get a good home.

And the journey continues. Airmove keeps taking on the challenge of helping Swedish homes, so that those who live there feel good.
